PRESENTATION: The purpose of this presentation is to introduce peer supporters to a cognitive approach to self-care. A closer look at the interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how these interact to impact who we are in our experience of ourselves as well as how we interact with others. Self-care is an overarching and person-specific specific concept.
The presenter will use concepts primarily from Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approaches to illustrated the inter-connectedness between thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how a cognitive approach to self-care can be developed and utilized in conjunction with other aspects of our self-care plan.
This training is not intended to provide clinical techniques. It is overview of how self-application of these concepts can contribute to our self-care.
Following the completion of this training participants will:
Understand and Describe the benefits of a cognitive approach to self-care
Be able to articulate the ABC formula of REBT
Discuss the importance of self-care in Human Services particularly as this topic relates to Peer-Supporters
