Trauma responsive practice implies a working knowledge of not only what signs and symptoms exist with trauma but also, how trauma impacts brain function and the individual’s well-being. Participants will expand their understanding of complex trauma (ACES) and its impacts on coping and learning. Principles of trauma informed practice and opportunities for school-based intervention will be explored.
As a result of this training, participant will:
Understand how the brain receives and remembers trauma.
Recognize the cumulative effect of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).
Understand the impact trauma(s) has on the child/youth’s regulating and coping.
Identify critical points of intervention; when behaviors escalate, and learning is halted.
Develop skills in coaching/supporting regulation.
Identify opportunities to foster a ‘safe’ classroom and teach skills in well-being and coping.
